At the end of 2002 most of his students realized that they were not likely to receive any verification of any of these statements or these unseen texts and the Medicine Dharma Reiki community disintegrated. To this day there has been no verification provided by Richard Blackwell. Statements are still being made to try to explain away what has happened including the idea that these teachings were in fact channeled.

Numerous groups have apologised publically for initially believing these teachings and promoting them. The official Medicine Dharma Reiki website run by Gordon Bell has also been disassembled and no longer exists. Il prétendait que son père était un militaire américain haut gradé, qui durant la deuxieme guerre mondiale, aurait trouvé un meuble chez un antiquaire, au Japon, dans lequel se trouvait des notes du "docteur Mikao Usui, fondateur du Reiki, ainsi qu'un soutra tibétain "le sutra de l'éclair", qui aurait été la source du Reiki.ll prétendait également détenir un enregistrement de la voix de Mikao Usui.
Les élèves lui ayant demandé de leur prouver l'existence de ces documents, il repoussait toujours le moment, pretextant être occupé à les traduire.Les élèves découvrirent aussi qu'il n'avait pas été initié au Reiki, bien qu'il l'enseignait, puis il passa une initiation de Reiki américain, alors qu'il enseignait le Reiki sans l'avoir appris depuis plusieurs années. Finalement il avoua ne pas detenir de sutra de l'éclair ni d'enregistrement de la voix de Mikao Usui , après avoir essayé de mystifier encore ses élèves en leur faisant écouter un enregistrement de sa propre voix, ou il prétend que Mikao Usui parle à travers lui.

Uh, I don't think this is all truth, but I think it is part of the truth and why that particular methodology works for some people and does not work for others. So that is all I'm going to say now, and I will wish you all good night and then I will continue these notes which are actually a reproduction of the notes which I wrote to my student Wantanabe which are contained within the box which contains the Tantra before it was destroyed in the burning of Tokyo. Après que ces notes aient été publiées sur internet, Blackwell ne pouvant plus prétendre détenir des notes écrites de la main de Mikao Usui et des enregistrements de la voix de Mikao Usui, a changé son scénario et prétendu que , contrairement a ce qu'il avait dit avant, les "notes d'Usui"n'avaient pas été trouvées par son père ( il avait raconté que son père était un officer américain , qui durant la deuxieme guerre mondiale, séjournant au Japon avait trouvé des documents cachés dans un meuble, qui contenait des notes de la main de Mikao Usui, son autobiographie, un enregistrement de sa voix, et un sutra tibetain "le sutra de l'éclair" (qui n'existe pas) prouvant que Mikao Usui avait utilisé ce sutra pour créer le Reiki !
Démasqué par ses élèves, Blackwell invente une nouvelle histoire, disant que finalement les notes d'Usui ne viennent pas de son père, et pour expliquer qu'aucune instance tibétaine ne connaisse Richard Blackwell, qui prétend être la IX ème reincarnation d'un dignitaire tibétain (IX réincarnation de Drugmar Rimpoché) il prétend que son ordination s'est faite à Taiwan, par un maitre nommé Tsien Rinpoché, dont ses élèves n'arriveront jamais à retrouver l'existence à Taiwan. Il dit aussi qu'étant poursuivi par la CIA, il n'a pas été ordonné sous son vrai nom, pour expliquer qu'on ne trouve pas son nom comme dignitaire tibetain (surtout un tulku !)

Statement from Richard Blackwell and the sponsor and head of MDR, Master Tsien Rinpoche, head of the Dharma Society of the Glorious White Peacock, in a letter to the Students of MDR after the publishing of Tapes on the Internet.
Includes a new twist on the story of Usui's notes: That they were not bought by George Blackwell, but were provided by Watanabe via an acquaintance to Tsien Rinpoche and an acknowledgement and apology of the plot to propagate these notes as if they were owned by the Blackwell family. The letter contains intense criticism of the western student, and of the followers of Reiki. It also highlights evasion of taxes by Richard Blackwell and Tsien Rinpoche by smuggling gold coins across international borders. Of course, some of this may be true, but it still would seem that based on the tape recording of Richard Blackwell (probably from around 1994), contained on this site, that the notes do notexist in the physical realm. At this point, Richard Blackwell and Tsien Rinpoche are intending to produce a few of these notes in the summer of 2003.
The letter also states that the reason no one can verify any of Richard Blackwell's claims to having been recognized as a Rinpoche or studying as a Lama, and that all such investigations end in a dead end, is because Richard Blackwell is forced to use an alias due to undercover work for a US Intelligence Agency and that if he refused to cooperate, he could be arrested. What the letter does not explain is why Richard Blackwell "and Master Tsein Rinpoche" have repeatedly for years refused to provide the name, address, and phone number of the author of this letter, the sponsor of and head of MDR, Master Tsien Rinpoche, who is also the head of the Dharma Society of the Glorious White Peacock. He is supposed to live in Taiwan. In the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition, in order to verify the authority of a Buddhist teacher to teach, one goes to the teacher's teacher to see if the teacher is in good standing in the lineage. Because of the special bond between student and teacher, such information is lovingly and willingly given and student is encouraged to meet the teacher's teacher. Instead, no one in MDR has ever seen or heard Master Tsein Rinpoche or been allowed to make contact with him in anyway, despite repeated requests. Such information would allow students to verify Richard Blackwell's claims of being recognized as a Rinpoche and a Lama, without requiring Richard Blackwell's real identity to be exposed, although if he has been using the same alias since 1974, it would also be verifiable when searching for the name Richard Blackwell. Needless to say, at this point, Master Tsein Rinpoche existence is very much in question, and the content of this letter should in no way be seen as reflective of the behavior or beliefs of any other Vajrayana Buddhist teacher that any of the Medicine Dharma Reiki students ever met. In fact, those receiving the letter were very upset by its content, and encourage anyone studying with teachers to verify their credentials and background, especially if contemplating entering the path of Vajrayana Buddhist studies. The student should do the research beforehand to educate themselves to recognize what makes a Lama 'a qualified Lama,' and what makes a student a qualified student. Try to understand what true qualifications are for a true Vajrayana Buddhist teacher and student, before engaging in study with anyone claiming to be such a teacher.

The new Reiki Magazine is published and includes 3 pages on the MDR story and why they do not publish the book, saying it was a spiritual lesson for everyone involved.
Saying they never would have published it without a hint that the material might not be accurate and then saying they were astonished that the material was not accurate ... long story about their own confusions, delusions, hopes and expectations.
Publishing his book in German although they never managed to have a direct contact with R. Blackwell, the manuscript got lost with half of the translation done because the computer crashed, their translator quit, they started a second attempt to translate it, then received the information about the deletion of all pages on the MDR web site and then they stopped the project. Seems to have been their first attempt to publish a book and quite a hard financial lesson. They apologize, saying truth has to be found inside not somewhere outside...

Selon des informations données par le directeur d'un centre de Dzogchen au Luxembourg, Blackwell aurait été arrêté par la police pour n'avoir pas payé d'impots, puis placé en hospital psychiatrique et était atteint d'un cancer.

„Dr.Usui’s Journals“ - a spiritual piece of apprenticeship
In the beginning of the year 2003 we, that is Juergen Kindler and Oliver Klatt, had decided to publish the book „Dr. Usui’s Tagebücher“ (Title of the english original: Medicine Dharma Reiki) in a German translation. Juergen Kindler Publications acquired the german copyrights for this book, we awarded a contract for the translation and started with the preparations of the production. Towards the end of 2002, after a longlasting stage full of difficulties concerning the production of this book, more and more disbeliefs of the authenticity of the material turned up, which could not be verified and authenticated, although several times attempted were madedto clarify the doubts. This lead us to the decision, instead of the financial losses this would cause to Juergen Kindler Publ., not to publish this book. In the following Oliver Klatt is talking about the affairs during the last two years concernig this book.

When I took over the chief editorship of the German Reiki Magazine in the beginning of 2001, I could see the book „Medicine Dharma Reiki“ by Lama Yeshe (civil name: Richard Blackwell) lying around in our office. In the first edition of 2001 we had just published an article by Paula Horan “The fourteen precepts of esoteric Reiki practice”, which was based on informations from this book. At this time I consciously kept this book at a distance. I had just been initiated as a Reiki Master by Paul Mitchell, in the tradition of Hawayo Takata, and I knew that the content of this book would cause a controversy. I just casually had a look at this book, that includes a foreword by the well-known Reiki Master and author Paula Horan, read a few sentences here and there and left a detailed study for later. If all that was written in this book were true, then this would anyway have longlasting effects within the worldwide Reiki scene, in a way that would surpass all that had been before, so one year or more didn’t seem to matter. In this context I also beheld the fact that the book had not been published in Great Britain or the United States but in India, which made it rather difficult to be received by people in the western world. Maybe, I thought, the universe had arranged it like this to prevent an extraordinary fast distribution of this book and through this prevent a “collective shock” within the worldwide Reiki community.
In the autumn of 2001 I had a phonecall with Narayan Choyin Dorje, partner of Paula Horan, and also with Paula Horan herself, related to another article that derived its informations from Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell), and we also talked about the book “Medicine Dharma Reiki”. I mentioned that I had not read the book yet, also because it was so voluminously, and Paula advised me to start with chapter 13, which represented the most interesting part of the book and a summary of the story of Dr. Usui within a few pages. Not long after that I took the book to my home from the office, I read chapter 13 and was deeply impressed. I studied the so-called “Original Text from Dr. Usui” about his life for a second time, then a third time, and I realized that, in case this was all true, the whole history of Reiki would have to be rewritten. I could easily square the words I had read with the person named Dr. Usui. Due to the fact that it was a translation from Japanese to English, not every piece of word would have to be taken at face value. However, it all felt to me, as if those words that I had read, descended from that person I knew from the well known photo of Dr. Usui. A few days later I told Juergen how much this text had impressed me. Thereupon he also read this book the first time and seemed impressed likewise. In the time following we both read the complete book; I devoured it within three days, Juergen read it within some weeks.
During these days in the Reiki Magazine we had just started a series called“Reiki – styles, forms, trends and ways of practice”. In the context of the book by Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) and through our contact with Narayan and Paula now obviously first hand information was available about a Reiki style named “Medicine Dharma Reiki” until then completely unknown in Germany, which should derive directly from Dr. Usui. Because these informations were presented by well known persons that were accepted worldwide within the Reiki scene (among others this was Paula Horan, personally known by Juergen, and Gordon Bell, with whom we had been cooperating very well for the article “Reiki Jin Kei Do”), we spontaniously decided to give some space to Paula and Narayan in our series to report on “Medicine Dharma Reiki” and its origins. (Remark: It is an editorial principle in this series for us first to give a chance to the founder or to the reigning Grandmaster of that style to be described, to write about this Reiki style, or to a person that is authorized to do so. Narayan Choyin Dorje and Paula Horan according to their own statement had been authorized to write about this style by Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell), who calls himself the lineage holder of “Medicine Dharma Reiki”; and we were happy about these first hand informations.)
It had been autumn of 2001, and we knew that Narayan and Paula were looking for a German publisher of the book “Medicine Dharma Reiki”. It happened that we got the chance to publish a preview from this book, for the first time in a German translation. This we did, together with the article „Medicine Dharma Reiki – Dr. Usui’s own path to universal life force” by Paula and Narayan (see edition 1/2002), adding the following: ”we would like to mention that a scientific proof of the authenticity of the material is still outstanding.”
After it had become obvious in the beginning of 2002, that no other publisher would be on board to publish the book “Medicine Dharma Reiki” in a German translation, we decided to do this by ourselves. This meant to take a risk in more than one concern, due to missing money in the beginning for the advance financing of the project. It wasn’t for sure, too, that after Frank Petter’s books about Dr. Usui that there would still be more demand on further books about Dr. Usui. The market might be saturated. And also the circumstances for producing such a book would be different to those for a magazine.
However, we wanted to take this risk, so the book would not be withheld from the German Reiki public, and due to this everybody could make up their ouw minds. So we exerted ourselves to find an investor for the project (thanks to them from the heart for their precious support through this means), and started to make ourselves acquainted with the necessary Know-how for the production of books. At the outset it was noted that proof of the authenticity of the material would still be forthcoming, hopefully by the time the book was published, we would explicitly mention this in the foreword. We did not intend to publish a book without any proof of the authenticity of the material or without any hint that this proof was still missing. At this stage there were wordings from Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) that within a short period there would be an overall documentation available to leave no doubts at all about the autenticity of the material.
Then came the summer of 2002: we were waiting for the ordered translation, so the book could appear in print even before Christmas. At that time we received from the community of Reiki Masters - after announcing the publishing of the book in our Reiki Magazine – the first hints to be taken seriously that the material might not be authentic. Even though the arrival of these hints irritated us at this relatively late time (because since the publication of the first article about this theme one and a half year had been passed), and because at this moment we could not clarify the motivation behind those hints, right from the beginning we remained open for such tips (here all these persons shall be thanked explicitly for their support with such tips!). In the course of these affairs we even launched with considerable time exposure, extensive investigations by forwarding information that came from one source to other knowledge holders within the scene and vice versa. Due to this we have surely been able to contribute to a more enforced questioning of the authenticity of the material also among the worldwide community of the “Medicine Dharma Reiki”.
At the same time there happened to be problems with the translation of the book, in a way that the translator did not deliver the translation in due time. First it just seemed to be like a short delay, but then soon it became obvious that we could forget about this translation, even despite of the advance payment that had been given. To start with we received the news that the whole first part of the finished translation was lost forever due to a computer crash. Then our contact with the translator who stayed abroad at that time broke off completely. So what to do?
In the mean time I interviewed Lawrence Ellyard for the Reiki Magazine, another Reiki Master from the student group of Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell), asking several crucial questions, also concerning the authenticity of the material; this interview was published in Edition No. 4 in 2002.
In the course of our enforced and also rather time consuming – because of many conversations in English – investigations, it became obvious that actually there was no person at all that had ever seen any of the original manuscripts of Dr. Usui, which are the foundation of all the content of the book “Medicine Dharma Reiki”. The only person that asserted this was Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) himself. Juergen Kindler, being the German publisher, had written several letters (to several addresses, because different sources had mentioned different postal addresses), without being able despite of several attempts and contacts by email to establish a contact with him. All attempts to achieve a personal contact with Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) failed till this day.
Since the only person that asserts to have ever seen an original manuscript of Dr. Usui was the author himself, - whose book we wanted to publish in Germany -,while he himself seemed to ignore us, and since also all persons that - according to the author or to Reiki Masters from his surroundings - had given proof of the authenticity of the material had died or were untraceable, we faced a situation that made it impossible to pursue the publication of the book wholeheartedly. This was painful for us inasmuch as at this time a lot of money had gone into the project, and on the other side there was a tremendous demand for this book by the readers of the Reiki Magazine.
In the mean time another translator had been given the order to do the translation, and, luckily, she had just done the foreword, when we received news from Paula Horan and Narayan Choyin Dorje that occurences had happened within the community of the worldwide “Medicine Dharma Reiki” that had scattered all trust in Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) in such a way that they had decided not to teach the “Medicine Dharma Reiki” anymore. At the same time Gordon Bell removed all the information about the “Medicine Dharma Reiki”, that he had been publishing for years, from his website.
Following up with this development we realized that the resulting situation bore no more basis for a publication of the book „Dr. Usuis Tagebücher“ (“Dr. Usui’s Journals”). This made us send a letter not long before Christmas to several hundred persons who had ordered the book in advance disclosing that the book will now appear no more in print.
We, Oliver Klatt and Juergen Kindler, want to apologize to all readers of the Reiki Magazine for the wrong informations that have been published for lack of a more detailed investigation in the following articles in the Reiki Magazine:

Furthermore we would like to ask our readers for forbearance to have caused expectations in relation to a publication of so-called “Journals of Dr. Usui”,is not possible because of the mentioned facts.
Reviewing the occurences with the so-called “Journals of Dr. Usui”, they show themselves as a real spiritual piece of apprenticeship. The “Journals” as much as the so-called “Medicine Dharma Reiki” (that might be a Buddhist practice but –as we know today – is not a form of Reiki, because there is no connection to any Reiki lineage), they both obviously have fulfilled two basic demands of nowadays worldwide Reiki community: first the need for a true perspective concerning the spiritual aspect of the Reiki practice, that many feel to be developed in too weak a manner, and secondly the need for more authentic information about the person of the founder of Reiki, Dr. Usui.
For the second issue there might be further though scantly sources like the inscription at the memorial for Dr. Usui, that we are publishing in the 2nd edition in 2003 of the Reiki Magazine (date of appearance: 24th of march, 2003) for the first time in a direct translation from old Japanese to German, and whose authenticity is without any doubts.
For the first issue everybody will furtheron have to find his own way of solving this. There seems to be no alltogether all-embracing, already based within the roots of Reiki, spiritual system at sight, like the “Medicine Dharma Reiki”could have been. One thing is for sure as it has been before: the truth is – once again – not to be found “somewhere out there”, but as always, first of all within ourselves.

Die „Tagebücher Dr. Usuis“ - ein spirituelles Lehrstück

Anfang des Jahres 2002 hatten wir, Jürgen Kindler und Oliver Klatt, uns dafür entschieden, das Buch „Dr. Usuis Tagebücher“ (engl. Originaltitel: Medicine Dharma Reiki) in deutscher Übersetzung zu veröffentlichen. Der Jürgen Kindler Verlag erwarb die deutschen Rechte an dem Buch, wir gaben die Übersetzung in Auftrag und begannen mit den Vorbereitungen zur Produktion. Gegen Ende 2002, nach einer langen Phase voller Schwierigkeiten im Zusammenhang mit der Produktion dieses Buches, verdichteten sich zunehmend begründete Zweifel an der Echtheit des Materials, die auch durch mehrmalige Aufklärungsversuche nicht ausgeräumt werden konnten. So entschieden wir uns, trotz der finanziellen Verluste, die dies für den Jürgen Kindler Verlag bedeutete, das Buch nicht zu veröffentlichen. Oliver Klatt berichtet hier über die Ereignisse der letzten beiden Jahre rund um dieses Buch.

Als ich Anfang 2001 die Chefredaktion des Reiki Magazins übernahm, sah ich das Buch „Medicine Dharma Reiki“ von Lama Yeshe (mit bürgerlichem Namen: Richard Blackwell) in unseren Büroräumen liegen. Gerade hatten wir in der Ausgabe 1/2001 den Artikel „Die 14 Lebensregeln der esoterischen Reiki-Praxis“ von Paula Horan veröffentlicht, der auf Informationen aus diesem Buch beruhte. Ich hielt zu dieser Zeit noch bewusst Distanz zu dem Buch. Ich war gerade erst zum Reiki-Meister eingeweiht worden, von Paul Mitchell, in der Tradition nach Hawayo Takata, und mir war klar, dass die Auseinandersetzung mit den Inhalten dieses Buches sicherlich einiges aufrühren würde. Ich blätterte also nur ab und zu in dem Buch, das mit einem Vorwort der bekannten Reiki-Meisterin und Buchautorin Paula Horan versehen ist, las hier und da ein paar Sätze und bewahrte mir die ausführliche Lektüre für einen späteren Zeitpunkt auf. Wenn dies alles wahr wäre, was darin stehen sollte, so war mir klar, dann würde dies eh langfristige Auswirkungen auf die weltweite Reiki-Szene haben, in Dimensionen, die alles Bisherige überschreiten würden, und dann käme es auf ein Jahr mehr oder weniger auch nicht an. In diesem Zusammenhang sah ich damals auch die Tatsache, dass das englischsprachige Buch in Indien und nicht in den USA oder in Großbritannien veröffentlicht worden war, wodurch es für uns Bewohner der westlichen Welt nicht gerade leicht erhältlich war. Vielleicht, so dachte ich, hat das Universum das extra so eingerichtet, um eine blitzschnelle Verbreitung dieses Buches und damit einen „kollektiven Schock“ innerhalb der weltweiten Reiki-Gemeinschaft zu verhindern.
Im Herbst 2001 telefonierte ich im Zusammenhang mit einem weiteren Artikel, der auf Informationen beruhte, die von Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) stammten, mit Narayan Choyin Dorje, dem Lebenspartner von Paula Horan, sowie mit Paula Horan selbst, wobei wir auch über das Buch „Medicine Dharma Reiki“sprachen. Ich erwähnte, dass ich das Buch bislang noch nicht gelesen hätte, auch weil es so umfangreich sei, und Paula riet mir, mit Kapitel 13 zu beginnen, das den interessantesten Teil des Buches darstelle und auf wenigen Seiten die wahre Geschichte Dr. Usuis zusammenfasse. Kurz darauf nahm ich das Buch aus der Redaktion mit nach Hause, las Kapitel 13 und war tief beeindruckt. Ich las den, so hieß es, „Originaltext von Dr. Usui“ über sein Leben einmal, zweimal, ein drittes Mal, und mir wurde klar, dass, sollte dies alles wahr sein, nunmehr die Geschichte des Reiki würde umgeschrieben werden müssen. Die Worte, die ich las, konnte ich gut mit der Person Dr. Usuis in Einklang bringen. Da es sich um eine Übersetzung aus dem Japanischen ins Englische handelte, war klar, dass nicht jedes Wort auf die Goldwaage zu legen war. Alles in allem fühlte es sich für mich aber damals tatsächlich so an, als würden die Worte, die ich las, von der Person stammen, die ich von dem bekannten Photo von Dr. Usui her kenne. Ein paar Tage später erzählte ich Jürgen davon, wie sehr mich dieser Text beeindruckt hatte. Daraufhin las auch er erstmals in dem Buch und schien ebenfalls tief beeindruckt. In der Folgezeit lasen wir beide das komplette Buch; ich verschlang es innerhalb von drei Tagen, Jürgen las es über mehrere Wochen verteilt.
Zu dieser Zeit hatten wir im Reiki Magazin gerade die Serie „Reiki - Stile, Formen, Richtungen und Anwendungsarten“ begonnen. Im Zusammenhang mit dem Buch von Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) und durch unseren Kontakt mit Narayan und Paula lagen nun offenbar Informationen aus erster Hand über einen in Deutschland bis dato völlig unbekannten Reiki-Stil namens „Medizin Dharma Reiki“ vor, der auch noch direkt auf Dr. Usui zurückgehen sollte. Da diese Informationen von Menschen präsentiert wurden, die innerhalb der weltweiten Reiki-Szene ein beträchtliches Renommee besaßen (u. a. Paula Horan, mit der Jürgen persönlich bekannt ist, und Gordon Bell, mit dem wir bei dem Artikel über „Reiki Jin Kei Do“ sehr gut zusammenarbeiteten), räumten wir Paula und Narayan spontan Platz in dieser Serie ein, um über „Medizin Dharma Reiki“und dessen Ursprünge zu berichten. (Anmerkung: Es ist ein redaktioneller Grundsatz von uns, dass wir bei Artikeln im Rahmen dieser Serie stets als erstes dem Gründer bzw. amtierenden Großmeister des zu beschreibenden Reiki-Stils oder aber Personen, die von diesem dazu authorisiert sind, die Gelegenheit geben, über den entsprechenden Reiki-Stil zu schreiben. Narayan Choyin Dorje und Paula Horan waren laut eigener Aussage von Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell), der sich als Linienhalter von „Medizin Dharma Reiki“sieht, dazu authorisiert darüber zu schreiben, und wir waren froh über diese Informationen aus erster Hand.)
Es war Herbst 2001, und Narayan und Paula suchten, wie wir wussten, einen deutschen Verleger für das Buch „Medicine Dharma Reiki“. Es ergab sich, dass wir die Möglichkeit dazu erhielten, einen Vorabdruck aus dem Buch, erstmalig in deutscher Übersetzung, zu veröffentlichen. Dies taten wir, zusammen mit dem Artikel „Medizin Dharma Reiki - Dr. Usuis eigener Weg zur Universalen Lebenskraft“ von Paula und Narayan (siehe Ausgabe 1/2002) mit dem folgenden Zusatz: „Wir möchten darauf hinweisen, dass der wissenschaftliche Beweis für die Authentizität des Materials noch aussteht.“
Nachdem Anfang 2002 klar war, dass offenbar kein anderer Verlag dazu bereit war, das Buch „Medicine Dharma Reiki“ in deutscher Übersetzung zu veröffentlichen, entschieden wir uns dazu, dies zu tun. Das war in vielerlei Hinsicht ein Wagnis, fehlte doch zunächst das nötige Geld für die Vorfinanzierung des Projektes. Auch war anfangs nicht klar, ob nach den Büchern von Frank Petter über Dr. Usui immer noch eine Nachfrage nach weiteren Büchern über Dr. Usui bestehen würde; der Markt könnte diesbezüglich ja auch mal gesättigt sein. Auch bringt die Produktion eines Buches andere Umstände mit sich als die eines Magazins. Dennoch wollten wir das Wagnis eingehen, damit dieses Buch der deutschen Reiki-Öffentlichkeit nicht vorenthalten bliebe und jeder sich dazu seine eigene Meinung bilden könne. So bemühten wir uns, Geldgeber für das Projekt zu finden (denen auf diesem Wege noch einmal recht herzlich für ihre wertvolle Unterstützung gedankt sei!) und begannen, uns das nötige Know-how für die Produktion von Büchern anzueignen. Dabei war von Anfang an klar, dass, sollte der Beweis für die Echtheit des Materials immer noch ausstehen, wenn das Buch fertig sein würde, wir auf jeden Fall in einem Vorwort ausdrücklich hierauf hinweisen würden. Zu keinem Zeitpunkt hatten wir vor, ein Buch zu veröffentlichen, ohne dass der Beweis für die Authentizität des Materials erbracht worden sei bzw. ohne einen Hinweis, dass dies bislang noch nicht der Fall gewesen sei. Zu dieser Zeit hieß es jedoch seitens Lama Yeshes (Richard Blackwells), dass bereits in Kürze eine Gesamtdokumentation vorliegen würde, die an der Echtheit des Materials keinerlei Zweifel lassen würde.
Der Sommer 2002 kam: Wir erwarteten die in Auftrag gegebene Übersetzung, damit das Buch wie geplant noch vor Weihnachten 2002 würde erscheinen können. Derweil erhielten wir, direkt nach unserer Ankündigung über die Veröffentlichung des Buches im Reiki Magazin, aus der Reiki-Meister-Gemeinschaft erste ernst zu nehmende Hinweise darauf, dass das Material möglicherweise nicht authentisch sei. Auch wenn uns das Eintreffen dieser Hinweise zu diesem relativ späten Zeitpunkt verständlicherweise irritierte (schließlich waren seit der Veröffentlichung des ersten Artikels zu diesemThema bereits anderthalb Jahre vergangen), und wir zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht genau einschätzen konnten, mit welcher Motivation diese Hinweise erfolgten, waren wir von Anfang an offen für jegliche Hinweise dieser Art (hier sei nochmals allen Personen ausdrücklich gedankt, die uns mit derartigen Hinweisen unterstützten!). Im weiteren Verlauf brachten wir unter beträchtlichem Zeitaufwand sogar umfangreiche Nachforschungen in Gang, indem wir Hinweise, die wir aus einer Quelle erhielten, an andere Kenner der Szene weiterleiteten und umgekehrt. Damit konnten wir sicherlich ein Stück weit dazu beitragen, dass die Frage nach der Authentizität des Materials auch innerhalb der weltweiten „Medizin Dharma Reiki“-Gemeinschaft mit mehr Nachdruck gestellt wurde.
Derweil gab es Probleme mit der Übersetzung des Buches, die sich dergestalt äußerten, dass der Übersetzer, den wir beauftragt hatten, die Übersetzung nicht pünktlich lieferte. Dabei sah es zunächst so aus, als ob es sich nur um eine kurze Verzögerung handeln würde. Dann wurde jedoch sehr bald klar, dass wir die Übersetzung, trotz bereits geleisteter Vorauszahlung, nunmehr vergessen konnten. Zunächst erhielten wir die Nachricht, dass der gesamte erste, bereits fertig übersetzte Teil des Buches auf dem Computer abgestürzt und damit unwiederbringlich dahin sei. Dann brach der Kontakt zu dem Übersetzer, der zu diesem Zeitpunkt im Ausland war, komplett ab. Was tun?
Zwischenzeitlich führte ich für das Reiki Magazin ein Interview mit Lawrence Ellyard, einem weiteren Reiki-Meister aus dem Umkreis Lama Yeshes (Richard Blackwells), dem ich einige kritische Fragen stellte, auch bezüglich der Authentizität des Materials; dieses Interview veröffentlichten wir in der Ausgabe 4/2002.
Wie sich im Laufe der unsererseits nun mit immer mehr Nachdruck betriebenen, im übrigen auch - durch die viele Korrespondenz in Englisch - recht zeitaufwendigen Nachforschungen herausstellte, gab es offenbar tatsächlich keine Person, die je ein Original-Manuskript Dr. Usuis - auf denen ja der gesamte Inhalt des Buches „Medicine Dharma Reiki“ beruhte - gesehen hatte. Die einzige Person, die dies von sich behauptete, war Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell), dem Jürgen Kindler, in seiner Eigenschaft als dessen deutscher Verleger, zwischenzeitlich mehrfach Briefe geschrieben hatte (an verschiedene Adressen, da unterschiedliche Quellen unterschiedliche Postadressen nannten) und zu dem es, trotz mehrfacher Bemühungen, auch nicht gelang, per E-Mail einen Kontakt herzustellen. Alle Versuche, mit Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) persönlich in Kontakt zu treten, blieben bis heute erfolglos.
Da nun die einzige Person, die je ein „Original-Manuskript Dr. Usuis“gesehen haben will, der Autor selbst war, dessen Buch wir in Deutschland veröffentlichen wollten, während dieser uns offenbar ignorierte, und darüber hinaus alle Personen, die - laut Aussage des Autors bzw. von Reiki-Meistern aus dessen Umkreis - den Beweis für die Echtheit des Materials bereits erbracht haben sollten, inzwischen verstorben oder nicht auffindbar sein sollten, ergab sich nunmehr eine Situation, die es so gut wie unmöglich machte, die Veröffentlichung des Buches weiter ernsthaft zu verfolgen. Dies war für uns insofern besonders schmerzlich, als dass zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits viel Geld in das Projekt geflossen war, und auf der anderen Seite eine immense Nachfrage nach dem Buch seitens der Leserinnen und Leser des Reiki Magazins bestand.
Derweil war eine zweite Übersetzerin mit der Übersetzung beauftragt worden, die glücklicherweise gerade erst das Vorwort übersetzt hatte, als wir von Paula Horan und Narayan Choyin Dorje die Nachricht erhielten, dass es innerhalb der weltweiten „Medizin Dharma Reiki“-Gemeinschaft zu Vorkommnissen gekommen war, die für sie zum Ergebnis hatten, dass das Vertrauen zu Lama Yeshe (Richard Blackwell) derart erschüttert worden war, dass sie sich dazu entschlossen hatten, „Medizin Dharma Reiki“ nicht weiter zu unterrichten. Zur selben Zeit nahm Gordon Bell sämtliche Informationen über „Medizin Dharma Reiki“, die er jahrelang im Internet veröffentlicht hatte, von seiner Website.
Im Zuge dieser Entwicklung wurde uns klar, dass die sich dadurch ergebende Situation keinerlei Grundlage mehr für die Veröffentlichung des Buches „Dr. Usuis Tagebücher“ darstellte. So sandten wir kurz vor Weihnachten 2002 an die mehreren hundert Menschen, die das Buch bereits im voraus bestellt hatten, einen Brief, in dem wir mitteilten, dass das Buch nunmehr nicht erscheinen wird.
Wir, Oliver Klatt und Jürgen Kindler, möchten uns hiermit ausdrücklich bei allen Lesern und Leserinnen des Reiki Magazins für die falschen Informationen entschuldigen, die mangels genauerer Überprüfung in den folgenden im Reiki Magazin abgedruckten Artikeln zu lesen waren:

Weiterhin möchten wir darauf hinweisen, dass alle Aussagen von Lawrence Ellyard über „Medizin Dharma Reiki“ und Dr. Usui in dem folgend genannten Interview auf Informationen beruhen, an denen, wir wir heute wissen, ernsthaft begründete Zweifel bestehen:

Darüber hinaus möchten wir unsere Leserinnen und Leser um Nachsicht bitten für die im Zusammenhang mit der geplanten Veröffentlichung der so genannten„Tagebücher Dr. Usuis“ erzeugte Erwartungshaltung und hoffen, dass Verständnis dafür besteht, dass das Buch aufgrund der geschilderten Tatsachenlage leider nicht erscheinen kann.
Im Rückblick betrachtet erweisen sich die Ereignisse um die so genannten„Tagebücher Dr. Usuis“ als ein echtes spirituelles Lehrstück. Die„Tagebücher“ wie auch das so genannte „Medizin Dharma Reiki“ (das zwar eine buddhistische Praxis sein mag, aber, wie wir heute wissen, eben keine Form des Reiki, da keine direkte Verbindung zu irgendeiner Reiki-Linie besteht), beides hat offenbar zwei grundlegende Bedürfnisse der heutigen, weltweiten Reiki-Gemeinschaft erfüllt: zum einen das Bedürfnis nach einer echten Perspektive hinsichtlich des spirituellen Aspektes der Reiki-Praxis, der von vielen als zu schwach entwickelt empfunden wird, zum anderen das Bedürfnis nach mehr authentischen Informationen über die Person des Begründers des Reiki, Dr. Usui.
Für letzteres mag es weitere, wenn auch spärliche Quellen geben, wie z. B. die Inschrift des Gedenksteines für Dr. Usui, die wir in der Ausgabe 2/2003 des Reiki Magazins (Erscheinungstermin: 24. März 2003) erstmals in direkter Übersetzung aus dem Altjapanischen ins Deutsche veröffentlichen und deren Authentizität ohne jeden Zweifel ist. Für ersteres wird wohl auch in Zukunft jeder für sich eine individuelle Lösung finden müssen. Ein allgemein übergreifendes, bereits in den Wurzeln des Reiki angelegtes, spirituelles System, wie es „Medizin Dharma Reiki“hätte sein können, scheint jedenfalls derzeit nicht in Sicht. Eins ist nach wie vor sicher: Die Wahrheit liegt, wieder einmal, nicht irgendwo „da draußen“, sondern, wie immer, zuallererst in uns selbst.

Dr. Richard Blackwell is a Buddhist Lama and retired clinical psychologist. He is a reincarnated Lama - Drugpa Yeshe Trinley Odzer (IX Drugmar Rinpoche) and recognised by some of his students as a living Bodhisattva. He is the founder and Spiritual Director Men Chhos Reiki International Inc. Currently Lama Yeshe is completing the translation and editing of the Usui's material as well as a number of never before translated Tibetan Buddhist texts on healing and related subjects. His hobbies include growing unusual medicinal plants. Before his ordination as a Buddhist Lama, he directed a mental health and substance abuse program in the private sector. He designed a number of mental health and substance abuse programs for small hospitals.
He presently conducts Men Chhos Reiki seminars in the USA and teacheson a one to one basis at his home in Portland, Oregon.
